The sun shone on Dundee for the start of what promises to be an exciting year for the IFBB in the UK.

After two covid-decimated years, there are 10 events on the calendar, compared with just three last year and the British Championships are back in October.

If the physiques are as good as they were in Scotland we will be in for a. treat. Promoter Harry Ogg once again put on a slick and professional event at Bonar Hall.

Next week sees the London and South East Championships, promoted by Tony Naddeo at Leatherhead and the shows keep coming then until the new Rhino’s Classic East Midlands Championships in Stamford on November 6, prompted by IFBB Elite Pro Nick Swann.

The British Championships will be on October 29 and 30 in Wolverhampton.

MEN’S CLASSES

The three weight classes all produced outstanding champions.

While some guys pack on mass, up to 80kg winner Matt Fraser presented a sculpted, balanced physique with deep separation and clean lines. His chest was particularly eye-catching but his whole physique was quality, from his tan to his posing. He was a worthy overall champion.

Diago Kavimi, who won the up to 90kg line-up, had incredible thickness throughout his body. His traps immediately caught the eye but his overall density was incredible. Gregorz Gielas, who claimed the over 90kg title, also put quality over size in his preparation to display clean lines.

Ryan Gabellone attractive shape and innovative routine took the intermediates ahead of Scott Swiatek.

In classic bodybuilding, Jonathan Gormley had every right to look confident — he’d really diallled it in and showed plenty of muscle in his upper body and legs too. Bodybuilding is not an easy sport for anyone but certainly not for tall guys, so runner-up Fraser McLaughlan can be proud of his achievement. His energetic and entertaining routine displayed plenty of muscle and good lines too.

In the juniors, Jake Woodward turned up with good condition and muscularity for one so young in the sport.

Felix Habarugira, who had a shapely, nicely tapered upper body took two first places in men’s physique and

the tall and X-shaped Grevon Harris claimed the title in classic physique.

 FEMALE CLASSES

Alex Brooks was the overall female winner. Alex, who was competing on stage for the first time in five years, has always been a top notch competitor. She recently turned 40 and moved to Blargowrie in Scotland and wanted to see if she still had what it took to succeed on stage and clearly she does, winning both the over 169cm category, the masters division and the overall.

Inked competitor Lisa Scrymgeour took a competitive up to 169cm bikini fitness category. Lisa has a slender but terrifically proportioned shape, which beat junior champion Olivia Pierronnet. Law student Olivia’s nicely balanced shape and polished stage presence shows great potential.

Olivia certainly knows what it takes to win – her mum is Ruth Pierronnet, who won the British bodyfitness masters title five years ago and has hardly stopped winning since. Ruth always turns up in phenomenal shape with a stature and shoulders that crush many a rival, but she was made to work for it here in bodyfitness. Runner-up Lynne Blair had a nicely flowing physique from top to bottom. The two women had contrasting physiques but neither would look out of place in a British finals first call out.

Zoey Hughes, who took second in masters bikini fitness and third in her height class, was fresh off her appearance at the IFBB Diamond Cup in Malta the previous week. Stacia Rattray, in third, looked well trained and attractive, with particularly good glutes. Fourth-placed Fiona Myloff was possibly a little too hard and muscular for the class. She was in great stage condition. This class was outstanding.
