The South Coast Championships once again set a high bar for the rest of the season's qualifiers.

Time 4 Nutrition boss Paul Smith, who promoted the event for the 17th year, always puts on a show as well as a contest and this year was no exception, with giveaways, free easter eggs for children and facepainting.

The serious business on stage saw about 150 competitors compete for places at the British Championships in October.

BODYBUILDING

Thirty-five guys entered the various bodybuilding classes. Steve Jenkin, who won the up to 90 kg open class, had impressive arms and quads.

Benjamin Smith dominated the under-80 kg line-up with superb legs and back.

The intermediate weight categories have changed this year to up to 85 kg and over 85 kg.

Sam Wright, who won the lighter class, had sliced legs. Hamza Ait Moulay, who took the heavier class, had one of the physiques of the day: it combined a thickly-muscled classical shape with balance and conditioning.

There were two impressive masters champions. Over 40s winner Brett Stephens is a big man – tall, with a huge chest and arms and decent aesthetics. A definite threat at the British finals.

There were some chunky physiques in the over-50s but none could match Richard Reader's conditioning.

Junior winner Jordan Rutherford could have been leaner but he still presented a nicely developed muscular shape with potential.

Classic winner Paul Harris stood out immediately with his shape and legs.

MEN'S PHYSIQUE

Heman Fong dominated muscular men's physique with a combination of the best shape and conditioning, not to mention the best name. Heman – what a name for a physique athlete.

Aaron Boyle, who won the short height class, is one to watch. He looked good in the front poses and really good when he turned to the rear. There is a lot going on with his physique when he poses.

Maciey Wolf gobbled up the opposition in the middle height class. He must have been a hungry Wolf – his waist was virtually non-existent – what a taper he had.

George Ogunpitan is another exciting new talent in the tall class. His physique had a lot of detail, good aesthetics and deep abs.

Edward Booker's shreds helped him win a tight top three in junior men's physique.

Rookie men's physique champion Sahil Khan organises film castings but judging by what he brought to the stage he could himself be a Bollywood star. He's got film star looks, wide shoulders and stage presence.

Masters winner Craig Ridgley's physique was impressive, with a full chest and tight conditioning. But he also paid attention to the other key details that often get overlooked, like tan and skin.

FEMALE CLASSES

Masters bikini fitness was the biggest class of the day, with 17 women on stage.

The tiny-waisted and effervescent Alison Fernandes took first place ahead of the athletic Hajnalka Lipcsei and Monika Matusova, who had an eye-catching shape.

Joanna Bronk's height, tight lines and solid glutes stood out in the tall open class.

Medium height class champion Sofia Myers had a lovely balanced shape. Stunning Amy Carlaw celebrated winning the short class by throwing a quick double biceps.

Abigail Willis was the pick of a top quality top three in junior bikini fitness. These women had all done their homework and were a credit to the sport.

Karolina Kalinowska's balanced, athletic and lean look took rookie bikini fitness.

Masters bodyfitness winner Olga Upelniece had a really classy shape, with lovely flowing lines and a striking back and glutes. Mariya Petrova's well balanced form took the open class.

Suzanne Delazzari, who won women's physique, brought a terrific package to the stage. Suzanne's legs and back were particularly outstanding and her trademark razor-sharp conditioning showed them to best effect.

Wellness continues to shine: another line-up high in numbers and quality was won by Mel Maguire's terrific overall package (pictured), which overcame Jade Packer and Gergana Ivanuva.
